Low Moor, VA, March 29, 2012 – After a rigorous on-site inspection, The College of American Pathologists (CAP) recently awarded accreditation to the laboratory at LewisGale Hospital Alleghany for meeting the highest standards of care. Inspectors examined labs records, quality control procedures, equipment, and staff qualifications for the preceding two years to determine if the lab met its criteria.

“Achieving this distinction means we’ve met or exceeded national standards that are recognized by the federal government as being equal to or more stringent than its own inspection program,” said William H. Lanehart, M.D., Laboratory Director.

For 50 years, The College of American Pathologists has been considered a worldwide leader in laboratory quality assurance and the gold standard for laboratory accreditation. Nationwide there are 7,000 laboratories that are CAP accredited.

The laboratory at LewisGale Hospital Alleghany provides testing on clinical specimens for the diagnoses and treatment of disease.

“This voluntary accreditation is further evidence of our hospital’s commitment to excellence in patient care,” said Madsen.
