Pulaski, Virginia, February 2012 – LewisGale Hospital Pulaski recently honored a physician, an employee and a volunteer with its prestigious 2011 Frist Humanitarian Award. This is the highest honor a person can receive at an HCA facility, the parent company of LewisGale Regional Health System.
On February 17, the hospital presented awards to Marie Babb, 2011 Frist Humanitarian Employee Award; Paddy Ratcliffe, 2011 Frist Humanitarian Volunteer Award, and Dr. Joseph Cacioppo, 2011 Frist Humanitarian Physician Award.
“We want to commend these winners for their selfless devotion to our patients and for their exemplary service to the community,” said Mark Nichols, CEO, LewisGale Hospital Pulaski. “These employees are examples of what makes our hospital one of the best in the nation for high-quality, compassionate care.”
The Frist Humanitarian Awards are given out annually at HCA-affiliated hospitals to an employee, volunteer, and physician who demonstrate extraordinary concern for the welfare and happiness of patients and their communities. The winners from each hospital also have a chance to win the national Frist Humanitarian Award.
At the awards ceremony, Babb, Ratcliffe, and Cacioppo were individually recognized for their efforts along with the other nominees.
For nearly 24 years, Marie Babb has been a dedicated employee at LewisGale Hospital Pulaski, most recently as the Housekeeping Supervisor. She was nominated by her employees because of her giving spirit and compassion for serving the patients and the community.
“She demonstrates what this hospital is all about,” wrote one employee on the nomination form.
Retired Nurse, Paddy Ratcliffe, is one of the hospital’s most committed volunteers. She has graciously provided over 2600 hours of volunteer service since 2004. Ratcliffe has dedicated her life to caring for others. This is her second Frist Award, a testament to her impact on the hospital and community. During her nursing career, she won the 1975 Frist Employee Award.
As an emergency room physician, Dr. Cacioppo was recognized for always putting the needs of patients first and for his missionary work through an organization he founded called Internal Christian Resources. He coordinates four trips a year to various countries to provide medical services and to spread the love of Christ.
Nominees for the Frist Humanitarian Employee Award included Darlene Edwards, Clayton Jackson, Sammy Mabe, Amy Newberry, Susie Price, Sam Spence, Teresa Thornton, and Karen Wilson.
Nominees for the Frist Humanitarian Volunteer Award included Don Poore, Isley Quesenberry, June Quesenberry, Joel Stuart, Billy Tracy, and Ed Weinbender.
Nominees for the Frist Humanitarian Physicians Award included Dr. James Lovelace, Dr. Karanita Ojomo, Dr. Ehikioya Osemobor, Dr. Eric Steen, Dr. Knotresha Stewart and Dr. Dixon Williams.
