Alleghany Regional Hospital Welcomes New Board Members

Joe Carpenter, Richard Crowder, and Dr. Bill Lanehart have been elected to the Alleghany Regional Hospital Board of Trustees. Carpenter is retired from the Covington School System and currently works at the Boys Home in Covington. Crowder retired from AET and is currently a consultant with CLEAR LLC. Lanehart, a pathologist at ARH, has served on the Board in his role as president of the ARH Medical Staff, but has now been elected to the Board as a physician representative.

The Center for Surgical Innovation at Henrico Doctors' Hospital has become the first in the Mid-Atlantic Region to adopt flexible laparoscopic surgery, an entirely new class of minimally invasive surgery. A gallbladder removal using the new procedure was performed by Dr. William Kelley this morning.

Advanced Wound Center Opens at Alleghany Regional Hospital

The incidence of chronic wounds throughout the Alleghany Highlands follows national trends, with the rate increasing by approximately 10 percent annually. Chronic wounds are generally the result of complications from diabetes, circulatory problems, and inadequate pressure relief. The mission of the Advanced Wound Center is to provide quality wound care and education to achieve optimal wound healing, wound management, and prevention outcomes.
