Women's mental health care focuses specifically on the emotional and behavioral well-being of women. This can involve specialized treatment for disorders like depression, anxiety and feelings of isolation, as well as postpartum anxiety and depression.

Henrico Doctors’ Hospital offers a new outpatient perinatal/postpartum mental health program. This program is tailored to women experiencing mood and anxiety disorders, including postpartum depression.

Our women’s mental health services

The program’s primary goal is for women to increase and/or maintain their current level of functioning while adjusting to motherhood or attachment with the baby. Women participate in a voluntary and comprehensive day treatment program at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital.

Outpatient care

Our program offers a multidisciplinary approach tailored to women 18 years old and older who are:

  • Pregnant
  • Have just given birth
  • One year postpartum
  • Self-esteem building
  • Regular self-care
  • Grief and loss
  • Miscarriage and loss
  • Depression
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Societal pressures on women
  • Postpartum depression
  • Postpartum anxiety
  • Managing roles and responsibilities
  • Developing coping techniques for depression and anxiety
